Our Review
When cards start talking about spending categories, our eyes start to glaze over. This is about to get complicated, but is it worth it? 5% cash back on your top eligible spend category. What does that mean??? Buckle up butter cup, let me school you. Each merchant you shop at is assigned a specific spending category. That category is determined by Citi and falls into the following groups: restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, select travel, select transit, select streaming services, fitness clubs, live entertainment, etc. etc. Every month, Citi will place your purchases into one of these categories and your highest category will get 5% back. Wallah, there you go. You’re welcome. So yes, this is annoying, but you aren’t doing any of the work. Citi is rewarding you based on your behavior. AND 5% is good…dang good, but it will max out after $500 in monthly spend so don’t go crazy. You will get 1% cash back after the limit is reached. Plus, there’s a $200 sign-up bonus, and you only have to spend $1500 in the first 6 months. We love this card for everyday use.
